The Michigan Falcon Project is established to monitor and document raptor populations throughout Michigan, with a primary focus on Peregrine Falcons, and to conduct and support scientific research on raptors. We promote public education and awareness regarding raptors and their conservation, and engage volunteers and citizen scientists to help gather field observations and expand our reach across the state.
We coordinate with state and federal wildlife agencies, rehabilitation professionals, and conservation organizations, and support banding, nest monitoring, and other field research activities in accordance with applicable federal and state permits. We also facilitate the rescue and transfer of raptors to licensed wildlife rehabilitators.

Tracking active nests across Michigan with building positive relationships with property contacts

Recovering grounded juveniles and placing them with licensed rehabbers

Contributing field data to the Midwest Peregrine Society each season

Peregrine Falcons were reintroduced to Michigan in the 1980s after becoming locally extinct from the state by the widespread use of DDT. Today, the species has made a remarkable comeback, with more than 40 known nest sites documented across the state. The Michigan Falcon Project is actively monitoring many of those sites, and we are working to expand that coverage by recruiting and training volunteers to observe and report on every active nest in Michigan. If you live near a known nest site or want to help protect this incredible bird, we want to hear from you.
Juvenile Peregrines sometimes land on city streets before they can fly strongly. Don't chase it — contain it carefully and contact us immediately. We'll coordinate transport to a licensed rehabber and return to the parents when flight-ready.
